This page describes how IQ Score Level works. It is not legal advice.

Right now, IQ Score Level sets no cookies at all. It can keep a few small entries in your browser, and none of them is ever sent to us. This page lists them. It also explains what will change when ads are switched on.

What is stored in your browser today?

These entries can be stored in your browser today. One exists only while you take the test, one after you finish a test, one only if you choose a color theme, and one only if you play a brain game.

NameTypeWhat it doesHow long it lastsNeeds consent?
iq-test-progressLocal storageKeeps your test in progress (questions, answers, time and position) so a reload or an accidental close does not lose itUntil you finish or quit the test; ignored once the time limit has passedNo, it is needed for the test to work
iq-test-recentLocal storageShort fingerprints of the questions in your last two tests (no answers, no scores), so a new test gives you different questionsUntil you clear your site data; only the last two tests are keptNo, it is needed for retakes to be new
themeLocal storageRemembers the light or dark theme you picked with the switch in the site headerUntil you clear your site dataNo, it is set only when you ask for it
iq-gamesLocal storageKeeps your best score, number of plays and last few results in each brain game on this deviceUntil you press “Clear my results” on the games page or clear your site dataNo, it is set only when you finish a game

Local storage is not a cookie. It is never sent to our server with your requests. The test entry is deleted when you finish or quit the test. The theme entry holds one word, “light” or “dark”, and nothing about you. The games entry holds only your best score, how many times you played each game, and your last few scores with the day you played. It holds no answers and nothing about you.

Does the site use cookies?

No. The site sets no cookies today. The test, the calculator and every article work without them.

We have not switched on any hosting feature that sets cookies. We checked the live site on its own domain: no page and no server response sets a cookie. If that ever changes, the cookie will be listed here.

What will change if ads are switched on?

The site shows no ads at present. If ads are switched on later, Google AdSense and its consent tool will store data in your browser. They will be AdSense Auto ads on reading pages only. They will not appear on the page with the test, the result and the answer review, on share pages, on the games, on our guide for parents, or on legal and trust pages.

Third-party vendors, including Google, would then use cookies to serve ads. The ads may be based on your prior visits to this site or other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies lets it and its partners serve ads based on those visits.

Google lists the cookies it uses on its advertising technologies page. We link to that list instead of copying it, because Google can change it.

Advertising cookies need your consent where the law requires it. If ads are switched on, visitors in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland will see a consent tool certified by Google. It asks before personalized ads are used. Nothing for advertising is stored until you choose.

Visitors covered by US state privacy laws will then see a “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” link. It lets you opt out.

The result image is made in your browser and saved to your device. Nothing about it is stored by us.

A share link is different. When you press share, our server stores your score, range, percentile, norm version and the day. It stores nothing in your browser. The privacy policy explains share links in full.

Do we use tracking pixels or fingerprinting?

No. We use no tracking pixels, no fingerprinting and no hidden identifiers. We do not try to recognize you between visits.

How can you control cookies?

You can control cookies in several ways, both now and once ads are active.

  • In your browser. Every browser lets you block or delete cookies and site data.
  • In Google’s Ads Settings. You can turn off personalized advertising.
  • At aboutads.info or Your Online Choices. You can opt out of some vendors’ use of cookies for personalized ads.
  • In our consent tool. Once ads are active, a link in the site footer will let you change your choices.

Blocking browser storage will not break the site. A page reload during the test will then lose your answers, a retake may repeat kinds of question, and the site will follow your device’s theme.

Where can you learn more?

Our privacy policy explains what data we store and why. Our terms of use cover the rest of how the site works. Questions about cookies can go through our contact page.
